Octenol Mosquito Lure/Attractant

For a fast hit to clobber those biting mosquitos

Add one to your order nowThe Bug eater is a "long term" solution to mosquitos. It will take up to 2-4 weeks to decimate the population of females, because it targets the male (non-biting) mozzie. If you want a quicker fix, then add the Octenol/lactic lure to your order

Called "Mozzie Attract" the Lure consists of a 250ml bottle of a mixture of Octenol and Lactic acid. Put 30mm (4 cap fulls) in the water of your Bug Eater (don't forget to add a couple of drops of detergent too). Octenol, simulates breath and perspiration, lactic acid is also an attractant to biting insects, the two together attract the female mosquito during her search for protein (biting). The lure is spread by the fan's downdraft, place the bugeater where the draft/wind will spread the lure into the affected area. The Octenol/Lactic acid lure increases the Bug Eater's effectiveness by targeting the female (biting) mosquito. Recommended for initial installation of the Bug Eater where extreme mosquito presence is evident or following plagues blown in during storms or heavy wind condtions. A bottle of mozzie lure lasts about 2 weeks - enough time for your bugeater to kick-in and elimiate the breeding population. In heavy infestation conditions, where you find it necessary to empty the bugeater tray everyday, you can recycle the lure by keeping the water, and straining off the bugs (or just buy 2 bottles)

What is Octenol?

click to go to ordering pageOctenol (1-octen-3-ol) is a chemical used to attract biting insects such as mosquitos. Other names of Octenol areAmyl vinyl carbinol, 1-Vinylhexanol, Matsutake alcohol, Vinyl amyl carbinol, Vinyl hexanol, Matsuica alcohol, Mushroom alcohol and 3-Hydroxy-1-octene.

The molecular formula is C8 H16 O

Octenol is produced naturally in human perspiration, and is a naturally occurring by-product that comes from animals that ingest large amounts of vegetable matter, such as cattle. - it is sometimes called "cow's breath" . Lactic Acid is produced by fermentation of sugar. It is a water-white practically odourless, syrupy liquid with an agreeable pure acid taste. Female Mosquitoes - seeking a blood meal to nourish their eggs - have chemoreceptors on their antennae that are stimulated by the scent of lactic acid and subsequently attracted to it

Is it Safe?

Octenol  smells  like  mushroom, if  you  don`t  like  the  smell, you  can  choose  not  to  use  it  indoors. But  it  is safe  for  humans. There may be some (untested) danger if ingested, so keep away from children. Not for human consumption In event of accidental eye contact - flush well with water and seek medical advice Do not store in direct sunlight
